MIRAMSHAH, April 15: One suspected militant, a passer-by and an Afghan national were killed, while six soldiers and a tribesman were wounded in three incidents in North Waziristan on Saturday, sources said.

They said security forces shot dead an attacker who had thrown a hand grenade at a military vehicle near Chashma village. The vehicle was part of an army convoy heading from Datakhel to Miramshah.

Officials said that troops killed the unknown attacker and took the body away. Two soldiers were injured.

Witnesses said another military vehicle was hit by a remote controlled bomb near Sergerdan Chowk in Miramshah, wounding four troops.

The bomb had been planted on the roadside. The wounded soldiers were taken to a military hospital.

Following the explosion, army and paramilitary troops resorted to heavy firing, which caused panic in the town.

Witnesses said a passer-by was killed in the military action.

All markets were closed before sunset. Political authorities had already imposed night curfew in Miramshah and Mirali.

Officials said an Afghan national, Habib Khan, was killed and a tribesman, Imran Khan, wounded when ordnance exploded in a scrap dump near Ghulam Khan checkpoint on the Afghan border.

The officials said the scrap had recently been brought from Afghanistan and stored near the checkpoint.
