ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday said Jinnah Avenue underpass would be opened to traffic on December 25.

The minister made the announcement during his visit to the F-8 Exchange Chowk Interchange on Jinnah Avenue and Serena Chowk Interchange projects, says a press release issued by the interior ministry.

During his visit to the under-construction Jinnah Avenue Interchange, the interior minister appreciated the contractor and Islamabad administration for completing the underpass in just 43 days and said that the F-8 Exchange Chowk Interchange will be inaugurated in the second week of February after completion of the flyover and loops as well.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had set the deadline of 100 days for the project’s completion. The project has two components – underpass and flyover.

The CDA officials said the underpass would be completed after 43 days while the flyover would also be completed before the deadline.

Meanwhile, the minister also inspected the Serena Interchange project and said it would be inaugurated in the first week of January, with work being completed in 60 days.

The press release said the minister also met the workers at the sites of both projects and appreciated them.

He advised the workers, contractors and CDA officials to continue working with the same zeal and enthusiasm.

Mr Naqvi said efforts were being made to provide world-class facilities to the citizens of Islamabad, adding that the completion of these mega projects would significantly improve traffic flow in Islamabad.

CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa briefed the minister about the progress made on both the projects. The deputy commissioner and senior CDA officers and contractors were also present on the occasion.
