ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that Pakistani students stranded in Syria would cross over into Lebanon by land and flown back to Pakistan after an arrangement was reached.

Speaking at a reception hosted by the embassy of Qatar celebrating the National Day with a message of progress and friendship, the prime minister said that about 300 Pakistani students needed to be evacuated and brought home and the prime minister of Lebanon had promised complete support on the matter.

Ambassador of Qatar Ali Bin Mubarak Al-Khater welcomed dignitaries, including Prime Minister Sharif, friends of the embassy, and members of the diplomatic community to the grand celebration marking the founding of the State of Qatar by Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani.

PM Sharif appreciated cordial and friendly ties between Pakistan and Qatar. He was optimistic about the $3 billion investment in diverse sectors, adding the financing would have a significant impact on the national economy.

A delegation from Qatar would soon visit Pakistan to materialise the investment pledge, he stated.

The ambassador of Qatar highlighted the significance of the National Day as a reflection of his country’s journey from its foundation to becoming a modern, independent state, recognised globally for its development and commitment to shared prosperity.

“Under the wise leadership of His Highness, the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar has made remarkable strides in humanitarian, economic, social, and environmental spheres, establishing itself as a model of sustainable growth,” the ambassador said.

He emphasised Qatar’s dedication to humanitarian efforts, its role as a mediator in conflict resolution, and its ongoing partnerships with international organisations to support communities affected by crises.

The ambassador also shed light on the flourishing relations between Qatar and Pakistan.

“Our ties are rooted in mutual respect and have seen exceptional progress in trade, investment, education, and culture. Qatar is committed to expanding this cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations,” he said.

Highlighting recent initiatives, he mentioned Qatar’s support for education, disaster relief, and flood rehabilitation projects in Pakistan. “These efforts underscore the deep friendship between our countries,” the ambassador noted, adding that high-level talks had reinforced a shared vision of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations.

The ambassador reaffirmed Qatar’s dedication to fostering closer ties with Pakistan and working collaboratively toward a future of shared progress and prosperity.
