MIANWALI: Residents of Isakhel city are longing to find a drop of potable water due to closure of water supply from Kalonwala following power bills default.

The Municipal Committee collects monthly water supply rent at the rate of Rs 500 per connection but failed to pay the electricity bill of Rs15.30 million.

Since the subsoil water of Isakhel city is not usable, inhabitants depend on water supply scheme which is situated in Kalonwala.

Malik Shahid, a known social worker of Isakhel, told this scribe that there has been no chief officer of Isakhel municipality since long. Due to paucity of funds, the MC couldn’t pay electricity bills and salaries to its staff who agitated against it several time.

He further said the MC was earlier charging Rs80 against each water connection and the same has been enhanced to Rs500 but their recovery system is very irregular which enhances the default amount.

Dawn tried to contact the Isakhel AC to get his comment on the situation but he did not respond.
