MALAKAND: Three people were gunned down and four others suffered injuries when unknown assailants opened fire on them in Garhi Usmanikhel Bazaar of Dargai tehsil here on Wednesday.

According to Dargai levies post commander Shahab Khan, unknown armed men wearing masks opened indiscriminate fire in the main bazaar, killing three people, including two brothers, identified as Abdullah and Ismail, and a passerby, Nazar Gul, and injuring four others.

The injured included three students and a prayer leader, identified as Jamshed, Kamil, Irfan and Shayan.

Soon after the incident, Malakand Levies reached the spot and shifted the bodies and the injured persons to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Dargai.

The attackers managed to escape after the incident.

The post commander said that the levies personnel cordoned off the area and collected evidence from the scene. He said the motive behind the incident was yet to be known.

The police registered a case and started investigation.
