Army, Wapda share honours

LAHORE, April 13: Army and Wapda shared honours on the second day of the 55th national cycling championship on Thursday.

Asmat Ali gave Army its first gold medal, winning the 4km individual pursuit.

Asmat covered the distance in five min 11.80 secs followed by Dilsher Ali (Wapda), who romped home in five min 13.39secs.

Haroon Rashid also from Wapda, finished third.

Wapda grabbed their second gold when the trio of Zafar, Zulifqar Ali and Naveed clocked one minute 8.01 seconds to win the 1000metre team sprint.

Nasir, Sakhawat and Amjad Ali earned a silver medal for Army with a timing of one minute 8.79 seconds.

Sui Southern Gas clinched the third place.

The team comprises Zahid, Mustansar, Noor Alam.

4 km Individual pursuit:

Asmat Ali (Army) five min 11.80secs; Dilsher Ali (Wapda); Haroon Rashid (Wapda).

1000m team sprint: Wapda (Zafar, Zulifqar Ali, Naveed); Army (Nasir, Sakhwat, Amjad); Sui Southern (Zahid, Mustansar, Noor Alam).
