PESHAWAR, April 12: The allotment of fictitious roll numbers to students of the Khyber Medical College by the University of Peshawar has caused unrest among teachers, official said.

For the first time in the history of the Khyber Medical College, the university of Peshawar has allotted fictitious roll numbers to students, apparently to help students of a private medical college pass the examination they had taken along with KMC students,” said a teacher.

The university had allowed students of the unaffiliated private medical college two months ago to appear in examinations along with students of the KMC in violation of rules, sources said on Wednesday.

They said eight students of the Jinnah Medical College, Peshawar, took three papers of the third-year examinations at the KMC between Jan 25 and 31.

After the examinations, the University of Peshawar issued papers to teachers for marking but the teachers said they were surprised to see the papers carried fictitious roll numbers.

The sources said it had been done by the university to keep KMC teachers in the dark about the papers of JMC students.

“University officials knew that KMC teachers would not give pass marks to JMC students because they had expressed resentment when they were allowed to take the examinations,” said a teacher. So, the fictitious roll numbers were allotted not to let KMC teachers know about the papers of JMC students, he added.

The issue stirred a heated debate at a meeting of the academic council of the college, said a source.
