Contractor defies NHA orders

GUJRANWALA, April 10: The contractor is continuing recovery of the toll tax from transporters on either side of the GT Road despite being restrained by the National Highway Authority.

Reports said the NHA had abolished a plan to build a bus bay along the GT Road at Ghakkhar town and recovery of toll tax and directed its deputy director in Wazirabad to comply with the instructions immediately.

A delegation of citizens on Monday also met with NHA general manager (operations) Shabbir Hussain in Islamabad and apprised him that the bus bay construction affected the business of traders and also led to the closure of Ghazi Road.

However, the contractor, who was directed to stop recovering the toll tax, has not complied with the NHA order. He is still making recovery from drivers of buses, wagons and trucks.

The people alleged that a provincial minister was supporting the contractor in the recovery of toll and construction of bus bay along the GT Road.

They demanded that the president and the prime minister should take stock of the situation.
