BAHAWALPUR, April 9: Police will introduce beat system at the union council level across the Punjab to curb the crime. This was stated by Range DIG Ghulam Haider Marth while presiding over a conference of police officials of the three districts here.

The DIG said that under this programme beat officials would be appointed in each of the union council, who would be responsible for controlling the crime in their respective areas.

He said the fresh recruitment would be made by the government during the current month after which the shortage of police strength would be solved to quite an extent.

Before beginning of the double shift system, he said police officials would be granted a one-day leave once a week.

The meeting also decided to launch a drive against proclaimed offenders after the preparation of their fresh lists.
