QUETTA: Armed men opened fire on trucks transporting coal from Duki to Punjab and torched three of the vehicles in Ziarat district on Saturday.

The assailants also targeted the vehicle of SSP Harnai, injuring his security guard, according to Ziarat Deputy Commissioner Liaquat Ali Kakar.

Mr Kakar said the truck drivers had loaded coal from the Shahrag area in Harnai and were en route to their destination when, upon reaching the Mangi Dam area on the Harnai-Ziarat road, armed men opened fire on the convoy.

The attackers later set three trucks on fire, destroying the vehicles and their coal cargo. The armed men fled the scene after the attack.
