KARACHI, April 9: Slow pace of work on various projects being undertaken in the Lyari Town under the governor’s package and Khushhal Pakistan Programme is a source of constant concern for the residents who have been facing multiple problems. According to area people, unplanned digging of main roads along with the link roads has not only created obstacles in the smooth flow of traffic but it has also caused pollution in the locality, exposing people to various respiratory, chest and eye diseases.

The Lyari town municipal administration has taken a serious note of the situation after it received several public complaints that in many areas dug-up roads have been left unattended and due to chocked gutter lines in some areas sewage have been accumulated in streets.

It may be recalled that a few months back work on 15 schemes under the governor’s package and five schemes under the Khushhal Pakistan programme projects had been undertaken in the town, but these schemes were yet to be completed.

The schemes include improvement and widening of main and link roads such as Shah Latif Bhittai Road, Tannery Road, Chawkiwara Road, New Kumarwara Road, Sheedi Village, Mir Mohammad Baloch Road, D.D Chaudary Road, Bihar Colony, Sheedi Village Road besides several link and street roads.

Work on sewerage system is also being carried out in various areas. It is amazing to note that work on these schemes has been carried simultaneously by the works and communication department of the city government.

A survey of the locality shows that unplanned digging of main and link roads has been causing nuisance to the area people as well as to the commuters.

In most of the areas, particularly adjoining areas of Lea Market, Sheedi Village Road and Shah Bhittai entire traffic load had been shifted to the link roads situated in densely populated areas.

The ongoing slow pace of work has created worst situation on Sheedi Village Road being a link road connects with Lea Market, Tannery Road, Aaat Chowk, Chawkiwara Road, Mir Mohammad Baloch Road, Moosa Lane section of Shah Bhittai Road, D.D Chaudhary Road.

A complete traffic chaos accompanied with dust is witnessed on these routes during the peak hours in the morning and evening.
