KANDY, April 5: Prolific Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya said on Wednesday he is disappointed at the outcome of his farewell cricket Test — with an injury to him and a loss to his team. ''It was disappointing to me, it was not the best way to finish off a Test career. I got injured and we lost the match both,'' he said after Sri Lanka lost the second and final Test and the series against Pakistan inside three days.

Jayasuriya made only 14 runs in the first innings and could not bat in his last Test innings because of a cut to his finger webbing and a dislocated thumb he sustained while taking a catch on Tuesday on the second day of the match.

He said while he wanted to bat after an painkilling injection when Sri Lanka resumed the third day at 73 for eight, the doctors were against the idea.—AP
