KARACHI: The low pressure area over the east central Arabian Sea intensified into a depression late Sunday night and gradually moved away from the Pakistan’s coast, the Met department said on Monday.

In an alert, the department has warned fishermen not to venture into the deep sea till Tuesday as sea conditions would remain rough.

“The depression over the central Arabian Sea has moved slowly west-northwestward during the last 12 hours and now lies at a distance of about 1,010 kilometres southwest of Karachi and Ormara, 1,000km south-southeast of Gwadar and 740km southeast of Masirah, Oman. The system is likely to keep moving west-northwestward towards Oman coast,” the alert says.

It stated that squally winds with speed of 30-40 km per hour are likely around the system centre with sea condition to remain rough till Monday evening.

The Met official said that no Pakistani coastal area was under any threat from this system.

Meanwhile, the weather in Karachi under the influence of the intensified system remained cloudy almost the whole day with some areas received drizzle.

The maximum temperature recorded in the city was 35.1 degrees Celsius “Karachi’s weather will likely to be remain hot and dry in coming days, though the weather system has moved towards Oman,” said Chief Meteorologist Dr Sardar Sarfaraz.

He added that the sea breeze is expected to return to the city on Tuesday evening. “But, it will remain disturbed as another low pressure area is building up, this time over the Bay of Bengal.”

The maximum temperature forecast for Tuesday is 36-38 degrees Celsius.
