Over 9,700 candidates appear in Sindh University entry test

HYDERABAD: A total of 9,787 candidates, including 1,938 girls, appeared in the first phase of the entry test for the admission to bachelor’s degree programmes for academic year 2025 held in Sindh University on Sunday, out of the 21,809 aspirants against 11,000 seats in 70 disciplines.
SU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Siddique Kalhoro personally supervised it. He expressed satisfaction over arrangements for the first phase started at 10:30am and lasted for 90 minutes.
Separate blocks were set up for 1,938 girl students at the Institute of Biochemistry, Institute of English Language & Literature and Institute of Art & Design while 9,787 boys were accommodated in the Faculty of Arts, Department of Media & Communication Studies, Department of Zoology, M.A. Kazi Institute of Chemistry and Faculty of Engineering & Technology.
The VC attributed smooth, orderly and peaceful conduct of the test to the ‘best strategy’ adopted by the varsity. He pointed out that holding the test in two phases helped avoid mess owing to a huge number of candidates and keep expenses at a lower side.
He noted that the number of candidates was higher than the previous year, which showed students’ and their parents’ trust in the standard of education maintained by the university. He said that adequate facilities were provided to the candidates during the entry test.
“Ten new disciplines are introduced from academic year 2023-24 while LLB classes have been started at the main campus,” the VC said. Earlier, dispensaries were set up close to the exam halls and ambulances were seen parked on the campus to deal with medical emergency. A control room was also established in the department of sociology to monitor the law and order.
According to Sindh University Testing Centre Director Dr Aftab Chandio, results of the first phase of the entry test would be announced the same day. The second test would be held on Oct 20 wherein the remaining 12,022 applicants would appear.
The SU had received 24,687 online applications. Of them 21,809 were for undergraduate admissions, including 16,209 boy and 5,603 girl applicants. Moreover, 2,878 candidates exempted from the test have applied for BS (3rd Year) programme, including 1,690 boys and 1,188 girls.
