Two bogies of Karachi Express derail near Hyderabad station

HYDERABAD: Two bogies of Karachi Express derailed soon after it left the Hyderabad railway station on Saturday night.
The train had arrived from Karachi’s Cantonment railway station and was bound for Lahore.
The derailment caused suspension of rail traffic for several hours but no major damage or any casualties.
The bogies derailed reportedly while the train was changing its tracks at a quite slow speed.
Panicked by heavy jerk, the passengers on board disembarked from the train as it grinded to a halt after skidding the tracks.
Pakistan Railway’s technical staff rushed to the spot and carried out necessary repair work to restore the tracks.
The rail traffic on both ‘up’ and ‘down’ tracks remained suspended during the course of repair work and some trains were halted at the Hyderabad station.
Superintendent of the station Siddique Kunharo said that only one line was affected due to the derailment but the line No. 1 remained functional and, as such, the Hyderabad-bound trains were allowed ply over it. After three hours of efforts, the Karachi Express was allowed to resume its journey to Lahore.
Bolan Mail runs over man
The Bolan Mail ran over a 40-year-old man, later identified as Abbas Shah, a resident of Bobak village, in an area falling within the Sehwan taluka on Sunday, our Dadu correspondent reported.
The victim was crossing the tracks near Bagh Yousuf village when the speeding train approached, giving him no chance to jump to safety. He came under the wheels and lost his life.
Rescue 1122 personnel proceeded to the accident site and transported the victim to the Syed Abdullah Shah Institute of Medical Sciences in Sehwan.
The train was on its way to Karachi from Larkana.
It resumed its journey after the body was removed minutes after the accident.
