KARACHI: The K-Electric claimed to have removed 7,400 illegal connections in different parts of Lyari over a period of three months, said a press release issued here on Tuesday.

It said the KE was actively conducting operations against electricity thieves and the illegal kunda mafia. Over the past three months, the company launched 78 anti-kunda drives in Lyari, removing 7,400 illegal connections, which totaled 9,100 kg in weight from its infrastructure.

These illegal connections were responsible for stealing 1.1 million units of electricity. It said electricity theft remained a major challenge in the city. Illegal kunda connections bypass the network’s safety protocols, posing significant risks to KE’s infrastructure and the public, it added.
