KARACHI: A minor boy drowned while another was rescued from a drain at Sohrab Goth on Friday, rescue services officials said.

Rescue-1122 official Hassaan Khan told Dawn that two children were playing with an electric wire at the bank of a nullah (drain) near Sohrab Goth when they suffered an electric shock and fell in the drain.

He said that one boy, identified as Ismail Fakhar, 12, who was at the bank of the drain, was rescued by residents while the other, Suleman, 10, drowned. The flow of water in the drain swept him away and till late in the evening, the rescuers were searching for him.

The officer hinted at the possibility that the boy might have died. He said that lately, they had been frequently receiving information of drowning incidents at the same place.

Body found in water line

The decomposed body of a man was found stuck in a water pipeline of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation in Malir on Friday, police and rescue services officials said.

The Memon Goth police in a statement said that the man, aged around 45, appeared to have died a few days ago. “His floating corpse came from somewhere and got stuck at water board office premises,” it said.

The Rescue-1122 official told Dawn that the body had decomposed completely. Rescue team retrieved the corpse and sent it to hospital for post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, a woman, identified as Feroza Fareed, 35, fell inside the well of her home in Nazimabad-4 while doing some household work in the courtyard. However, rescue officials took timely action and rescued her.

She suffered minor injuries and was provided onsite treatment. But as she appeared to be in a “state of shock” she was referred to a hospital for further treatment.
