RAWALPINDI: An altercation between a traffic assistant and a car rider over ‘wrong parking’ led to the registration of a case against the latter at the New Town police station on Monday.

According to an initial report, Zameer Ahmad was on duty on Sixth Road on Monday morning when a car rider hit a motorcycle at the road crossing and parked the vehicle on the road. The traffic assistant asked the driver to park the car on the roadside. However, the driver identified as Aitzaz started quarrelling with him.

Ghulam Yahya, a traffic warden, lodged an FIR with the New Town police stating that he was on duty with Zameer on Sixth Road when a Cultus coming from Faizabad hit a motorcycle rider and parked his car on the road.

He said the traffic assistant asked the driver to remove his car from the road and park it on the roadside. However, the car driver, a resident of Seventh Road, used abusive language against the traffic staff besides hurling threats at them after getting out of the car.

He then sat in the car and tried to speed off, but the traffic assistant attempted to stop him which caught public attention and a large number of people gathered there. During this, the wireless set of Zameer went missing while his mobile phone was damaged.

In the meantime, the FIR alleged, Aitzaz’s brothers and sisters also reached the spot and beat up the traffic assistant.

34 ASIs promoted

Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi Babar Sarfraz Alpa issued orders for the promotion of 34 ASIs to the rank of sub-inspector on the recommendations of the departmental board on Monday.

The board’s recommendations and records were examined and promotion orders issued for the personnel on the basis of their excellent service record.

A police spokesman said the special departmental board was chaired by the RPO with City Police Officer Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani, DPO Attock Dr Sardar Ghiyas Gul Khan, DPO Chakwal retired Captain Wahid Mehmood and DPO Jhelum Nasir Mahmood Bajwa as its members.

The promoted ASIs were: Javed Akhtar, Saleem Masih, Aftab Hussain Jafri, Nisar Ahmed Khan, Abrar Ahmed, Khurram Saleem, Mohammad Zubair, Waheed Khurshid, Mohammad Amir Shafiq, Hasan Riaz, Faisal Mahmood, Parvez Akhtar, Hasnat Mahmood, Shoaib among those promoted to the post of Uddin, Mohammad Adil Ali, Mohammad Ramzan, Shahid Mehmood, Safdar Ali Khan, Shakeel Lal, Mohammad Rais, Shamriz Mehboob, Waqar Ahmed, Shahzad Rasool, Mohammad Azram, Aamir Shahzad, Wajid Mahmood, Tahir Bashir, Mohammad Tanveer, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Mohammad Ashraf, Shahid Iqbal, Mohammad Haroon Saeed, Naeem Maqsood and Shamrizal Islam.

The RPO while congratulating the promoted officers said that according to the orders of IGP the process of timely promotion will continue. All officers have been promoted to the next post based on their excellent service record and performance.

“You should always maintain this quality in the future. Now you should perform your duty with more hard work and dedication and be devoted to the spirit of service and ensure the delivery of justice to the citizens,” he added.
