KARACHI: The city administration has sealed more than 120 shops involved in illegal filling of LPG cylinders in the city.

Chairing a meeting to review actions against sale of illegal LPG cylinders and to ensure safety of the citizens, Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi decided to initiate a crackdown on those selling substandard cylinders.

The meeting was informed that 97 shops selling illegal LPG cylinders were sealed in district East, 25 in Central, while actions were also taken in Korangi, Keamari and West districts.

He directed the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), Civil Defence and other departments to effectively curb the business of illegal LPG cylinders, said a press release issued here on Friday.

It was decided that all deputy commissioners would make coordinated efforts with Ogra, Civil Defence and police in their respective districts.

Ogra officials briefed the meeting on the LPG distribution system, while DCs informed the meeting about actions taken against illegal LPG cylinder sales in their respective districts.

The meeting was attended by government officials, representatives of FPCCI, LPG Distributors Association and others.
