BAHAWALPUR: A woman and her son were killed while three other family members suffered serious wounds in a roof collapse at Mohallah Kajalpura in Gri Ganj bazaar in the Bahawalpur old walled city area on Thursday morning.

According to Rescue 1122 and Kotwali police, the roof of a dilapidated house adjacent to the old Abbasia school collapsed. As a result five members of the family were trapped under its debris.

On an emergency call, rescuers rushed to the scene and shifted the injured persons to the emergency department of Bahawal Victoria Hospital where Shabana (45) and her son Abdul Mughni (21) succumbed to their wounds. The three injured -- Mahnoor (24) Abdul Mannan (23) and Abdul Saboor (17) -- were admitted to the emergency ward for treatment.

Meanwhile, a mosque moazzin, Malik Fida Hussain Dawinch, was killed when he was hit by a speeding car driver Shoaib on link road at Nowshehra Jadid Nai Pul at Jhangra interchange on Multan–Sukkur Motorway No.5 on Thursday.

Reports said Fida Hussain was crossing the link road when he was hit by the speeding car. Driver Shoaib also suffered injuries and was rendered first aid.

PROTEST: The family members in Mailsi (Vehari) protested against the alleged killing of one Talha in police custody on Wednesday.

According to protesters, Talha of Mohallah Dharampura was arrested in connection with a robbery case and was allegedly tortured to death in police custody.

The protesters blocked the Colony Chowk in Mailsi and demanded arrest of the police officials.

However, police alleged that Talha was a drug trafficker. He fell ill in police lock-up on Wednesday night and was removed to THQ hospital Mailsi. Later, due to his serious condition, Talha was shifted to DHQ hospital Vehari where he expired.

FIA: The Federal Investigation Agency claimed to have arrested 10 students from Multan airport and foiled their attempt to travel abroad on fake documents.

According to FIA sources, when students including Ahmed Faraz, Baig Ahmed, Raza

Ali, Aun Muhammad, Hasan Arsalan and others reached the immigration counter, the FIA officials on a tip-off checked their documents, which according to them, were found fake. All were arrested and lodged in circle office. Further investigation is under way.
