ISLAMABAD, March 30: US Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker has said that Washington is satisfied over the investigation against Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, adding the A.Q. Khan network stood dismantled and “no Qadeer Khan would now take birth in Pakistan”.

He was speaking in a TV programme on Thursday.

Asked why had the US not made a nuclear agreement with Pakistan, he said the US-India deal was not directed against any country. On the other hand, he added, 65 per cent of Indian nuclear installations had come under IAEA monitoring under the deal.

The ambassador said the US was opposing the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project because of the Iranian nuclear programme. “Our war is not directed against Islam,” he said.

He praised Pakistani forces for rendering sacrifices in tribal areas, but said they had given these sacrifices for the sake of their country and not for US.

He regretted killing of women and children in a missile attack in Bajaur.

Mr Crocker said the US wanted 2007 elections were held in Pakistan in a fair and transparent manner. However, he added, it was Pakistan’s internal matter and “we don’t interfere in such internal affairs. Democracy in Pakistan is very vital for us”.

He said cooperation between US and Pakistan would continue even after Osama bin Laden was caught.-–Online
