FC man dies in attack on bus

GILGIT, March 30: A soldier of the Frontier Constabulary was killed and two other passengers injured on Wednesday when a bus of the Northern Areas Transport Corporation was ambushed at around 10pm on the Karakoram Highway, sources said.

They said the bus was on its way to Rawalpindi when it was attacked near the Harban area, 170kms south of Gilgit, in presence of police escort.

The injured were admitted to hospitals in Chilas and Abbottabad. The FC soldier, Liaquat, died before reaching a hospital in Abbottabad.

The injured were identified as Zahid, son of Akhtar Rahman, of Charsadda, and Afzal Aman, son of Daulat Aman, of Ghizer.

The incident took place after a break of six months when miscreants had started targeting buses after the Jan 8, 2005, clashes in Gilgit.
