KARACHI: Wage board award demanded

Published March 31, 2006

KARACHI, March 30: The Dawn unit of Karachi Union of Journalists at a meeting on Thursday expressed concern over, what it called, failure of the parliamentary committee constituted by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to resolve the issue of the Seventh Wage Award.

The meeting through a resolution demanded immediate implementation of the award and sought federal and provincial governments’ immediate intervention.

It lauded the role of Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees (ITNE) in the implementation process and called upon newspaper owners to avoid using court cases as a lever to delay the award.

Through another resolution, the meeting demanded immediate constitution of the Eighth Wage Board as prices of essential commodities are constantly on the rise.
