GHALANAI: Poppy crop destroyed

Published March 30, 2006

GHALANAI (Mohmand Agency), March 29: The political authorities working in collaboration with tribesmen destroyed poppy crop in more than 100 kanals in 25 villages on Wednesday.

The poppy destruction operation, headed by Assistant Political Agent, Yakka Ghund, Ahmad Jan Afridi, was launched in the 25 villages of the agency three days ago.

During these days, the contraband crop had been destroyed in a large area, the APA said, adding that the growers and elders of the villages had extended cooperation in this regard.

He said that the operation would continue till the banned crop was completely destroyed in the area.

The 25 villages have been merged into the Charsadda district a few years ago. However, their status remains disputed as their residents are resisting the decision and the Charsadda district administration is not able to establish its writ in the villages.
