LAHORE, March 28: Police on Tuesday uprooted the stage and damaged the sound system set for the JUP’s conference on Namoos-i-Risalat at Minar-i-Pakistan grounds here. The JUP leaders condemned the police action and announced that Friday (March 31) would be observed as protest day against the “uncalled for action” as the party had got permission for the conference from the city fathers.

The police allegedly tore down banners welcoming participants to the moot and also tortured the activists engaged in finalising arrangements at the venue.

The JUP leaders, including Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, Gen K.M. Azhar and Qari Zawwar Bahadur, at a press conference condemned the police action.

They said they would not only observe a protest day to condemn it but would also move a court of law and table an adjournment motion in the National Assembly against it.

Mr Zubair is an MNA on MMA ticket from Sindh.

The JUP leaders demanded termination from service of the police officials responsible for the violence.

The city administration, later, allowed holding of the conference.
