PESHAWAR: A police constable deployed in the Ababeel Squad of the department allegedly shot himself dead inside his house in the jurisdiction of Bhana Mari police station here on Sunday.

A statement issued by the city police said Iftikhar ended his life for unknown reasons. It added that senior police officials visited Iftikhar’s home and shifted the body to hospital for autopsy. The statement also said an investigation team collected empty shells and a pistol from the spot.

Meanwhile, the Mattani police recovered body of an unidentified person, around 36 years old, from Kishan Garh Road on the outskirts of the provincial capital on Sunday.

A statement said Sub-Inspector Mattani police station Mir Hasan received information about a body lying in the area.

The police said that the man was shot dead, and the police recovered five empty shells of a 30-bore pistol from the spot.
