KARACHI, March 27: Pakistan, once an Asian powerhouse in Enterprise class, ended on disappointing note securing only a bronze in the just concluded 12th biennial Asian sailing championship at Doha.

The bronze came in Match Racing through the efforts of quartet, Shehryar Arshad, Ahsan Naqvi, Iqbal Azeem and Mohammad Riaz.

Shehryar, Ahsan and Iqbal who started sailing at a tender age have gone through the mill entering the senior category after sailing Optimist for couple of years.

Pakistan returned with two silver and a bronze from the last Asian sailing regatta held at Mumbai two years back. Shehryar-Riaz won silver while Mamoon-Zahid got bronze in Enterprise.

The other silver was bagged by Tanveer in Mistral.

The turn out at the regatta was encouraging as it saw 300 plus sailors representing 18 nations.

Pakistan made its presence felt in eight out of 12 events in the competition.

According to results, Mamoon and Zahid, the two experienced sailors of Navy, had to be content with fifth and sixth positions in Laser Radial class in a fleet of 19 boats.

South Korea clinched the gold and bronze while silver went to China.

Sabahatullah Babur secured sixth position in Laser 4.7 class, Mohammad Yousuf finished 7th in Laser Standard while Tanveer was placed sixth in Mistral Heavy class.
