PESHAWAR, March 27: The provincial government has formally approved a pilot project to introduce computer science classes in intermediate colleges. This was announced at a meeting chaired by provincial Education Minister Maulana Fazle Ali Haqqani here on Monday.
Initially, the project will cover 25 colleges but at a later stage it will be extended to all inter colleges of the province.
Computer science has already been introduced at the school and degree college levels.
Mr Haqqani directed the concerned authorities to complete all the necessary formalities, including appointment of computer instructors, so that computer classes could be started in inter colleges from the next academic year.
He also issued instructions about immediately filling the vacant posts of lecturers in order to overcome the shortage of academic staff in colleges.
The minister took serious note of reports about use of sub-standard material in the newly constructed degree colleges of the province, particularly in Degree College Yar Hussain Swabi, and constituted a committee to inquire into the matter.
He directed the committee to immediately present him a report about the sub-standard construction and directed education department officials to lodge an FIR against those responsible in light of the said committee’s report. —PPI
