DERA ISMAIL KHAN/KOHAT: Two persons were killed and five others were injured in explosions in Dera and Hangu districts, the police and rescue officials said on Saturday.

One person died and four others sustained injuries when the compressor of an air conditioner exploded inside a house in Dera’s Gilani Town on Saturday. A Rescue 1122 team shifted the body and the injured to the hospital.

The deceased was identified as Zulfiqar, 48, and the injured included Maryum Bibi, 45, Amna Bibi, 21, Rania, 16, and Ayan, 12.

Rescuers said the deceased and the injured from the Dera Ghazi Khan district of Punjab were staying in the house as guests. The blast also caused major damage to the building as one of its rooms collapsed.

Meanwhile, one of the two persons, who were injured when an IED blast struck a vehicle carrying vegetables on the main road in the Hangu district on Friday night, succumbed to his injuries at a Peshawar hospital in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Safeerullah. The injured was identified as Mir Afzal. Both belonged to of Bannu district.

The police have registered an FIR and started further investigation.

A police official told Dawn on the phone that the pick-up truck was carrying vegetables to Kohat from Hangu. He said four to five kilogrammes of explosives were used in the blast.

The police official said the miscreants might have mistaken the vehicle for a police van.
