QUETTA, March 27: The Balochistan assembly on Monday admitted for debate a joint adjournment motion on the military operation in Dera Bugti and Kohlu. Deputy Speaker Muhammad Aslam Bhootani, who presided over the session, said the debates would be held on Thursday.

Jan Muhammad Buledi of the National Party, while speaking on the admissibility of the motion tabled jointly by him, Rehmatullah Baloch and Mir Akbar Mengal (BNP-Mengal), said that the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan and security forces in Dera Bugti and Kohlu were killing innocent people in order to impose their policies.

Mr Buledi said that people were disturbed over the situation in Dera Bugti and Kohlu, but the government was ignoring people’s demand for stopping the military action and resolving the issue politically.

Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mir Abdur Rehman Jamali supported the motion and said that the government too was concerned over the situation..

The house also adopted a joint resolution moved by the treasury and opposition members condemning the publication of blasphemous cartoons in some European newspapers and said it was a conspiracy to hit Islam against Christianity.

The resolution tabled by Farah Azeem Shah of the BNP-Awami urged the federal government to sever diplomatic ties with the European states where the cartoons had been published and impose ban on import of products from these countries.

The treasury and opposition members suggested an amendment to the resolution to the effect that the federal government should press upon the Organization of Islamic Countries to move the Untied Nation Security Council to ban drawing and publication of cartoons of any prophet.

The house witnessed an uproar when opposition member Mr Buledi alleged that PML indulged in horse-trading in the Senate elections and regretted that the PML leadership had taken disciplinary action against MPAs who had cast vote according to their conscience.

Mir Rehman Jamali of the PML strongly reacted to the remarks and maintained that he should not interfere in the internal affairs of the ruling party.

During the question hour, Minister for Public Health Egineering Maulana Abdul Bari informed the house that certain development projects of the department could not be implemented for want of funds.

The house offered fateha for Khan Abdul Wali Khan, victims of Spin Boldak, Dera Bbugti and Kohlu operations and mother of Speaker Jamal Shah Kakar.
