KARACHI: Water shortage in Lyari

Published March 27, 2006

KARACHI, March 26: An acute water shortage problem has been persisting in some parts of Lyari Town for the past two weeks causing unrest among the people in the affected areas. The hard-hit localities included parts of Baghdad, Shah Beg lane and Daryabad union council areas.

The situation is worst in Ali Mohammad Mohalla, Hingorabad and Daryabad and Nawabad. Private tankers are the main source for drinking water, according to people of the area.

They expressed their concern over the indifferent attitude of concerned authorities, threatening that if early steps were not taken to overcome the water shortage problem, they would go on strike.

Many houses and apartment buildings in Baghdadi council areas are getting contaminated water for the past few days. Residents of the affected areas said sewage might be mixing with drinking water somewhere in the KWSB system.
