KARACHI, March 26: The Hamas, after being voted to power, has created the biggest obstacle in the way of the implementation of the US plan for ‘Greater Middle East’, said Jamal Juma, campaign coordinator of the Palestinian Grassroots Anti-Apartheid Wall Campaign.

Talking to Dawn at the WSF venue, Mr Juma said “We are part of the struggle to protect our natural right to exist and reclaim our history and ancestral land, and to ensure a just future for Palestinian people.”

Before the resent election in our territory, Israel was pursuing the plan to colonize and control entire Palestine and confine Palestinians to the Gaza Strip and the ghettos within three walled-in Bantustans in the West Bank. But now after coming to power, Hamas strongly opposes the wall project.

Commenting on the election results, Jamal Juma said that the landslide victory with 60 per cent of votes was rather a pleasant surprise, even to Hamas itself as it was expecting it somewhere between 30 and 40 per cent.

Likewise, the PLO and Fatah were shocked over the results. “Hamas is trying to forge alliance with other political entities, such as Popular Liberation Front for Palestine (PLFP), Fatah and People’s Party having communist inclination, in an effort to form a national front. Hamas didn’t recognize PLO as the only representative of the Palestinian people”, he stated.

All the left and religious parties are united against the occupation of their land by the Israel, according to him.

He described the recent moves towards establishment of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Israel as ‘most upsetting’.

Replying to another question, Mr Juma pointed out that despite being only three million, Palestinians bravely fought against the world’s most well-equipped armies backed by the United States.
