TAXILA: A fruit vendor was arrested for attempting to sexually assault a 15- year-old girl in Shedun village in the limits of Hazro Police station on Friday. Mohammad Ismail reported to police that his 15-year-old sister, who is student of grade 8 at local school, went to her neighbours house when a fruit vendor forcefully took her to a room and attempted to rape her. As she voiced alarm, the man fled.

Later the girl revealed her ordeal to her family who took her to a police station.

Medical examination at Tehsil Headquarters Hospital confirmed the attempted assault.

Police have registered a case against the accused under section 376-iii and 377-B and arrested him.

Meanwhile, during a crackdown against drug-selling mafia, police arrested drug dealers who supplied narcotics to students of various educational institutions and seized over 6kg of contraband, police said.

According to a spokesperson, police in Wah Cantonment arrested Nasir Rasheed red-handed while selling narcotics to students of an educational institution and recovered 2.4kg of hashish from his possession. The same police arrested Adeel, a member of a local drug racket, and recovered 1.7kg of hashish from him.
