QUETTA: The election tribunal on Friday dismissed an election petition filed by National Party leader Haji Mohammad Islam against BNP (Awami) President Mir Asadullah Baloch challenging the latter’s victory in Panjgur constituency of Balochistan Assembly, due to lack of evidence.

The petition was filed against Mr Baloch’s victory in PB-29 (Panjgur) constituency.

Advocates Nadir Chilgari, Shabbir Ahmed Sherani, and Bilal Mohsin represented the petitioner while Baloch Khan and Jaleel Baloch represented the defendent.

Both parties presented witnesses and their affidavits, but the petitioner did not provide any substantial evidence as required by the Elections Act, 1997 to prove ‘illegal and corrupt’ practices to annul the election result.

After examining all the witnesses’ statements and hearing the lawyers’ arguments, the election tribunal, headed by Justice Abdullah Baloch of the Balochistan High Court, dismissed the petition for want of evidence.
