FAISALABAD, March 23: The Water And Sanitation Agency has banned the forced pumping of industrial effluent and ordered to construct treatment tanks in all the dying and spinning factories in the city. The decision has been taken during a meeting of WASA officials and representatives of the All-Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association.
The meeting decided that the industrial units would not be allowed to discharge their waste water above the sanctioned capacity. These units would have to observe the weekly holiday.
The factory owners were asked to construct water treatment tanks in their respective units within a month and not to throw their sullage water directly in the sewerage lines.
The meeting observed that the sewerage lines in the industrial areas would be desilted on a monthly basis for which the factories would be closed for two days.
Wasa officials assured the industrial unit owners that they would provide all emergency services for the cleanliness of water lines and ensure the speedy process on their complaints.
Industrialists also assured Wasa authorities of helping them resolve the problems of sewerage blockade in industrial areas.
KILLED: A man was killed and five others injured when a truck hit a rickshaw near Jhal Khanuana Intersection on Thursday.
Reports said a speeding truck collided with a rickshaw coming from the opposite direction. As a result, Maryam Bibi died on the spot while her three daughters, including Suman and Rimsha, besides other passengers, Asghar and Bilqees, were injured.
They were shifted to the Allied Hospital where the condition of Suman was stated to be critical.
