PESHAWAR, March 23: Zari Begum, who claimed to be the owner of a commercial plot along the G.T. Road, accused the city police of colluding with district nazim Haji Ghulam Ali and evicting her family from their property at gunpoint. Addressing a press conference along with her son Habib Gul at the press club here on Wednesday, she said that if she was left with no other option and she was not provided with justice, she would commit self-immolation along with her whole family in front of chief minister house. The district nazim would be responsible for their self-immolation.

She said that police had raided her house late Tuesday night, adding that when she resisted the police had pointed a gun at her. Zari Begum said that her three sons, Wahid Gul, Amin Gul and Sahib Gul, have been missing since Tuesday night, adding that she had inquired about them from all police stations and hospitals of the city, but she was still clueless about them.

She said that the disputed plot was in their possession since 1962, but now one Rahatullah had claimed the ownership of the commercial plot with the help of district nazim Haji Ghulam Ali.

She said that the district nazim had decided to hold a jirga under the leadership of local nazim Haji Dost Mohammad and Malik Fahim. She said that she and her family had agreed to attend the jirga, which was to be held on March 21.

She alleged that the jirga did not bother to hear viewpoints of their jirga members, Hamid Mehmood Zubairi and Khitab Gul, and they did not bother to see documents proving their possession of the plot. She accused the district nazim of having interfered in jirga proceedings and having written his decision without listening to their viewpoint.

She said that when their jirga members had refused to sign the decision, Haji Ghulam Ali ousted them from his office, saying that he did not believe in any court. She said that the district nazim said that he would not accept any decision against him, saying that his son-in-law liked the plot and he would build a modern plaza over it.

Zari Begum said that jirga members representing them had been receiving murder threats.

She appealed to the NWFP governor, chief minister and chief justice of the Peshawar High Court to provide her justice.
