RAWALPINDI, March 22: A nine-year-old schoolboy was kidnapped for a Rs2.5 million ransom from Muslim Town in Sadiqabad, police said on Wednesday. Waleed Ahmed, a 4th class student and son of Syed Shahab Ahmed disappeared from outside his house on March 18 after returning from school.

Quoting the father of the boy, the police said the boy had come home at 10.30am but after some time left the house in the school uniform and did not return.

The parents and other family members started a search and after failing to trace a clue to the boy, sought police help the following day.

The next day, the parents received a telephone call, demanding a Rs2.5 million ransom for the safe release of the boy.

When contacted, investigating officer Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar said the law-enforcement agencies were working on the case and trying to recover the boy. He said the kidnappers had been calling the parents on several occasions, demanding the ransom.—Staff Reporter
