Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to “outrightly denounce” Israel’s “barbaric act” of indiscriminate bombing of Gaza.

Speaking at the SCO summit in Astana, PM Shehbaz said, “SCO stands for the observance of UN principles of humanity, territorial integrity and peoples’ fundamental rights to self-determination.

Recalling UN Security Council resolutions on various regional issues, the premier highlighted that failure to implement those resolutions “speedily and amicably has brought unimaginable suffering” to the nearby regions.

“One of the worst examples is Palestine where over 37,000 innocent civilians, mostly women and children have been killed, and over two million have been displaced by Israel’s indiscriminate and unabated bombing,” he noted.

“SCO must outrightly denounce this barbaric act and call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire leading to the implementation of the two-state solution,” Shehbaz said, adding that the said solution would include the establishment of Palestine on the basis of pre-1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
