KARACHI: The spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, has chosen Karachi as the venue for the annual 10-day Muharram congregations, known as Ashara Mubaraka in the community, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.

It said that the government of Pakistan and the Bohra community had extended an official invitation to Syedna earlier this month to conduct Muharram sermons in the country.

Bohra community representative Shabbir Harianawala said, “Over 80,000 Dawoodi Bohras from Pakistan and overseas are expected to attend the congregations.”

“We are working closely with government authorities and local organisations including neighbours to ensure that our guests are taken care of in the best possible manner during their stay in Karachi. Our aim is to provide a welcoming and comfortable environment for all attendees,” he said.

The statement said that last time Syedna Mufaddal led the Muharram congregations in Karachi in 2017.
