LAHORE, March 21: Acting legend Mohammad Ali, who passed away on Sunday, was laid to rest in the Ahata of Hazrat Mian Mir Sahib’s tomb here on Tuesday. The funeral prayer was held in a ground near the actor’s Liberty Park residence. Allama Maqsood Ahmad Qadri, the Khateeb of the Data Sahib Mosque, led the prayer.

Thousands of people, many of them with tearful eyes, attended the funeral. Prominent among them were provincial ministers Abdul Aleem Khan and Mian Mohammad Aslam, Jehangir Badar, Akhtar Rasool, and renowned film stars Nadeem, Mustafa Qureshi, Ghulam Mohyuddin and Umar Sharif.

Family sources said they had sought permission for burial in the courtyard of Data Sahib. Failing to get the permission, the family decided to bury him in the Darbar of Hazrat Mian Mir.

The soyem will be held at the late actor’s residence in Gulberg at 11am on Wednesday and Dua at 1pm.
