ISLAMABAD, March 20: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Monday reviewed the preparations for the party’s centenary celebrations which will start with a mammoth public rally in Lahore on March 23.

The meeting which took place at the PML House was also attended by party’s secretary-general Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed.

The prime minister said the last century was the century of struggle for the Muslims of South Asia, and Muslim League being the founding party of Pakistan was the party which would take the country forward by strengthening the democratic institutions and improving the lot of the people through uninterrupted growth and development.

He said the leadership of the party was committed to making the country progress with dignity and honour.

“Our elders have rendered untold sacrifices for the country and its solidarity and stability is the responsibility of every member of the PML as well as every Pakistani”, he remarked.

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain briefed the prime minister about the entire programme.

He said on this historic day party workers from all over the country would gather at Minar-i-Pakistan to reiterate the resolve to make Pakistan a tolerant, progressive and forward looking country.

He said special arrangements had been made to ensure the presence of old party workers in this convention.

According to chief organiser of the convention Iqbal Dar, it would be the largest convention ever held at Minar-i-Pakistan. He said the PML president would inaugurate the convention which would be attended by leaders, office-bearers and elected representatives of the party from all over the country including Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas.

He said around one million invitations had been sent, adding that some 100,000 people from Lahore alone were expected to attend the convention.

He said the party would also give its political and economic programme including ideas to deal with the problems of price-hike and unemployment.
