KARACHI: A sessions court on Thursday ordered the Sachal police to record the statement of a man against the commissioner of the Safoora Town Municipal Corporation and other local government officials, and to proceed according to the law.

The case pertains to an accident in which a car fell into an open manhole, resulting in damages and injuries to the members of a family.

“The petitioner is directed to visit police station Sachal. The SHO is directed to record the statement of the petitioner and do according to law,” the court ruled.

Amjad Ali, a lawyer by profession, had filed an application before Additional District and Sessions Judge Liaquat Ali Khoso under sections 22-A and 22-B of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), seeking directives for the registration of an FIR and the recording of statements against Safoora TMC commissioner Munawar Mallah and other local bodies’ officials.

He (applicant) alleged that their (respondents) negligence and carelessness led to damages to his car, causing injuries to his family members.

The applicant submitted that last month while travelling with his family en route from Cantonment Saddar, their car fell into an open manhole near Ghazi Goth, causing injuries to his minor children and wife. He also stated that the vehicle was also damaged in the accident, which he attributed to the negligence and carelessness of the local bodies’ officials in Safoora TMC.

The applicant stated that he had approached the concerned police station to lodge a complaint against the local bodies’ officials and to record his statement under Section 154 of the CrPC. However, he alleged that his complaint was not duly acknowledged.
