NAROWAL: Electricity supply to 500 houses has been suspended for 20 days due to a transformer fault in village Hansiwal near Shakargarh. On the other hand, electronics worth millions of rupees were burnt due to high voltage of electricity.

Due to technical fault in the transformer, 500 houses of the village were deprived of electricity supply and when the power was restored, due to high voltage, refrigerators, fans, pump motors, LCDs and LEDs and other household electronic equipment were damaged, inflicting a loss of millions of rupees on the people.

In the absence of electricity, people have to bring water for their animals from far away.

Former federal minister Daniyal Aziz told Dawn the restoration of electricity was being delayed as a political revenge as the people of this village had voted for him. He said the PML-N government was disturbing the citizens by harassing them in various ways.

The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) officers did not pay attention to the issue despite registration of complaints by the citizens.

Two citizens, Akmal Hussain and Abdullah, alleged that the Gepco employees demanded Rs35,000 for replacement of the transformer.

They said they were being punished for voting for Daniyal Aziz in the general election.

Gepco EXEN in Shakargarh Raja Ghazanfar said he was not aware of the electricity issue in the village of Hansiwala but claimed that the issue would be resolved soon.
