KARACHI, March 19: A rally was taken out by Pasban to pay tributes to Ghazi Abdul Qayyum, who was hanged on March 19, 1935 for killing a man accused of blasphemy in a court. A large of number of Pasban activists converged on Kakri Ground near Lea Market and started a march. After passing through various thoroughfares of Lyari Town, the marchers reached a place in Chawkiwara where in 1935, law enforcement agencies had opened fire at the funeral procession of the late Ghazi, killing more than 100 men, women and children.

It was the first time that any political or religious group has observed Ghazi’s anniversary.

Participants, mostly youths of the Pasban rally, visited the Mewashah Graveyard to offer fateha at the grave of Ghazi Qayyum.

Earlier, Pasban chief Abdul Shakoor, Syed Saeed Mohammad, Kufail Shah, Usman Azam, Rafique Ahmed Khaskheli and others addressed the rally.

They exhorted the youth to follow the footsteps of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) and adopt Islamic lifestyle. They said that history had proved that a Muslim would never tolerate any blasphemous remarks.

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
