Cricket: Mumbai to host final

MUMBAI, March 18: Mumbai will host the final of eight-nation ICC Champions Cricket Trophy to be held in October-November, Indian cricket board president Sharad Pawar said on Saturday.

“We have requested ICC that final of the tournament should be played at Cricket Club of India (CCI) in Mumbai, and it will be played there,” Pawar told reporters.

He said Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Mohali, besides Mumbai, would host matches of Champions Trophy tournament Oct 7-Nov 5.

It was decided that Kolkata, one of originally short-listed venues, would not host any of matches after Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) wrote to BCCI it could host matches only after Oct 23 due to rains.

Pawar is going to Dubai to attend ICC Executive Board meeting that will consider schedule and hosting of ICC events and tournaments from 2007 to 2015, including 2011 and 2015 World Cups.

The meeting on Monday and Tuesday, will take “in principle” decisions and follow a three-step process to reach its conclusions.—Agencies
