Motor vehicles bill

LAHORE, March 17: The Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2005 was moved in the Punjab Assembly here on Friday. The Punjab law minister moved the bill as recommended by the Standing Committee on Transport.

The bill stipulates whoever drives or rides a motorcycle in any public place, while standing or lying thereon on one wheel, which endangers or is likely to endanger human life or property shall be liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months or with fine which may extend to Rs5,000 or with both.

Whoever, having previously been convicted of an offence specified in sub-section (1), commits the same offence within three years of his previous conviction, shall, for every such subsequent offence, be liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine which may extend to Rs10,000 or with both.

Offence under this section shall be cognizable and police officer may seize and detain the motorcycle.
