KARACHI, March 17: Sindh Minister for Planning and Development Syed Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari on Friday inaugurated Rs 60 million expansion project of Khatoon-i-Pakistan Government Girls College, Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

The expansion work carried out on 6270 square feet consists of 10 class-rooms, five laboratories and an auditorium.

The project, work on which started on April 29, 2004, was to be completed in three years, but was completed one year in advance on the directives of the Sindh Minister for Planning and owing to early release of funds.

Shoaib Bukhari recalled that foundation stone of this college, constructed in 1956, was laid by Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah and he is fortunate that its expansion project has been inaugurated by him. The minister said MQM, on the directive of its chief Altaf Hussain, is continuously and wholeheartedly working for the progress of Sindh, its stability and prosperity, and particularly steps are being taken for raising the literacy rate.

He said that modern-day knowledge is being imparted in old educational institutions.

Shoaib Bukhari directed the officials of Works and Services Department to plan for the repair of science block and construction of library, rest room, staff room and gymnasium so that the same could be included in the next year’s ADP.

Present on the occasion were EDO (Higher Education) Prof Rafiq Siddiqi, District Officer (Colleges) Prof Munawar Shafiq, DDO (Planning), Prof Azhar Naqvi, DO (Education Works) Saeed Malik and Principal Farzana Zaidi.—APP
