LAHORE: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) regional offices issued final notices to defaulter government departments, including Punjab police, for not paying bills amounting to Rs1.34 billion.

According to a spokesman for the company, the departments were warned to pay the dues immediately or face disconnection of their gas connections.

The notices were served to several teaching hospitals due to non-payment of bills cumulatively worth Rs33.86 million.

Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police are to pay Rs188.152 million and Rs36.711 million.

Islamabad police are the defaulters of bills amounting to Rs37.076 million, followed by district/central jails in Punjab and KP that are to pay Rs363.8 million and Rs60.721 million. Pak Public Works Department, Capital Development Authority and offices of DCs, ACs, Circuit Houses have also failed to pay Rs102.9 million, Rs139.54 million, and Rs6.6 million.

DESILTING: Lahore Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood on Saturday directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) admin to ensure completion of all city drains’ desilting before the start of the monsoon to avert the overflowing of any drain.

He said this while visiting the Shadbagh sewage water disposal station — the city’s biggest station — and various major drains. Wasa is liable each year to clean/desilt Lahore’s drains, including Cantt Drain, Maulana Shaukat Ali Road Drain, College Road Drain, Sattukatla Drain, Shahdara Drain, Upper Chhota Ravi Drain, Lower Chotta Ravi Drain, and Sukh Nehar Drain. Besides, the agency also makes nearly 3,000km of sewer lines desilt-free every year.

However, desilting of the Hudiara Drain is carried out by the irrigation department.

PR POLICE: Pakistan Railways Police on Saturday arrested three railway employees for being involved in material theft, according to a spokesman.
