KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to bring more buses for the public transport service across the province in the new financial year.

According to a statement issued on Friday, a decision to this effect was taken by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, who holds the portfolios of information, transport, and excise and taxation departments.

“The vision of [PPP] chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari is to connect tehsils with the district headquarters,” the statement quoted the minister as saying while addressing a meeting.

“We are considering to bring the scheme under this vision. On the directives of Mr Bhutto-Zardari, the Peoples Bus Service will be started from Sukkur to Larkana and Sukkur to Khairpur,” he added.

The meeting, it said, was briefed on the construction of various BRT ways, signals and reconstruction of bus terminals as well as the construction of a U-turn for the Peoples Bus Service.

Additionally, it also decided to construct a parking plaza to reduce traffic pressure in the central areas of Hyderabad. The meeting was informed that the construction work of eight bus terminals had been completed and they would be functional by June.
