SUKKUR, March 15: Three people were killed and four others, one of them a minor girl, were injured in a road accident near Mirpur Mathelo town of the Ghotki district on Wednesday.

A marriage party on a tractor trolley was on way to Keenjhar from Mirpur Mathelo when the trolley overturned due to over speeding.

Those killed were identified as Sharaf Din, Imam Bux and Abbas.

The injured — six-year-old Reema, Bakhshan, Ismail and Fakir Mohammad — were admitted to a local hospital.

NOTICES: The Sindh High Court, Sukkur Bench, issued notices to eight persons including, the district nazim of Sukkur, DCO of Sukkur, taluka nazims and TMOs of Old Sukkur, New Sukkur and Rohri to appear before the court on March 16, and explain their point of view regarding supply of contaminated water to the residents.

The bench comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and Justice Ameer Hani Muslim issued notices after hearing a constitutional petition filed by the Secretary General of the Sukkur Press Club, Lala Asad Pathan, through Shabbir Shar, advocate, on December 14, 2004, in which the petitioner had maintained that the city with a population of 600,000 was being provided with contaminated water.

On this occasion, both the counsel for the petitioner and the President of the High Court Bar Association, Sukkur, Imdad Awan advocate requested both the learned justices to visit the drainage schemes and see for themselves the condition of the filter plants. On this, the bench visited the filter plants of Old Sukkur and also inspected the drainage schemes.

They expressed their anger and asked the concerned officials as to why they failed to rectify the system after a lapse of 50 year.
